Years at Camp: 1st first summer in 2011

Department: Technical Theater, Media

Camp Bio:

This is my first summer at Camp Ballibay as a counsellor. I will be helping the kids with radio and video mainly. As this is my first time I don't know exactly what my duities will include but I have a rough idea and I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure I will do a good job helping the kids out as I have a lot of experience for my age. I'm positive that both myself and the kids will enjoy it.

Professional/School Bio:

I currently study Broadcast Production at The Unversity of the West of Scotland and I have just finished my second year. This course includes a high amount of studio work that involves a lot of radio and television based programmes. In my spare time at University I enjoy making short films and writing scripts, at my time so far on my course I have produced several short films and co-wrote another two. I have also undertaken work experience at the BBC as a stand-in on gameshows for the National Lottery.

Outside of Media my favourite pastime is singing. I was in local choirs when I was younger and have been classically trained since the age of 7. I enjoy it emmensley and try to keep my voice trained by singing everyday.

My favourite sport is fencing. I fence Foil and have a Scottish National Fencing Qualification Grade 2 of 6. I have been fencing for 4 years now and highly enjoy it. Along with fencing I also scuba dive, I am a NAUI Advanced Scuba Diver and have been on dives of over 100 feet, these include low visibility dives and cave dives. I love diving although the waters are not as warm in Scotland as they are abroad.

I am looking forward to Camp Ballibay very much and I can't wait to go!

About the Staff of the Ballibay Camps

A key to the success of any camping season is staff. We spend a great deal of time screening and selecting our staff before every summer, and we have been fortunate to have many talented counselors and teachers remain with us season after season. Our staff members are predominantly educators and university students from the United States, although we also have a strong international component to our staff.

Our staff members come to us with outstanding credentials: professional experience, a background in teaching, and/or exceptional skills in their specialties. Most of all, we seek good, caring people who are interested in the well-being and growth of children. We look for people who, knowing something of the competitive nature of the adult world, are excited to put those concerns aside for a summer and focus on "the journey" in a non-competitive, fun, friendly environment.
