Jamie Drye

Title: Dean of Boys, Head of Dance

Years at Camp: 5th summer in 2011

Department: Dance, Administration

Camp Bio:

This will be my fifth year here at Camp Ballibay. In the Summer of 2007 and 2008 I held the responsibilities of Dance Instructor, teaching Modern and Dance Composition. My main responsibility was Cabin Counselor and assisting in the boys area. In 2009 I spent half of my time at camp as Dean of Boys, along with fulfilling my usual duties as a Counselor and Dance Instructor (picking up a hip hop class that year). Because of my background in theatre, I have been able to Choreograph The Wiz, and Jesus Christ Superstar, along with assisting with staging for other productions. My main focus is on modern/contemporary dance, and my favorite part about camp is having the opportunity to set choreography on our campers. I have worked with such themes as pollution, self-gratification, and Custody to allow the dancers to research and think deeper about the movement vocabulary and its intentions.   I am excited to be returning to Camp Ballibay as Head of the Dance Department, while continuing my responsibilities as Dean of Boys.

About the Staff of the Ballibay Camps

A key to the success of any camping season is staff. We spend a great deal of time screening and selecting our staff before every summer, and we have been fortunate to have many talented counselors and teachers remain with us season after season. Our staff members are predominantly educators and university students from the United States, although we also have a strong international component to our staff.

Our staff members come to us with outstanding credentials: professional experience, a background in teaching, and/or exceptional skills in their specialties. Most of all, we seek good, caring people who are interested in the well-being and growth of children. We look for people who, knowing something of the competitive nature of the adult world, are excited to put those concerns aside for a summer and focus on "the journey" in a non-competitive, fun, friendly environment.
