Years at Camp: 1st year in 2010

Department: Technical Theater, Theater

Camp Bio:

This is my first year at Camp Ballibay and I am very excited! In Australia, we don't have anything like summer camps so when I first heard about them when I was 14, I knew it was something that I wanted to be a part of... and 8 years later, here I am! I am most looking forward to the creative vibe and meeting lots of fantastic like-minded people!

Professional/School Bio:

Throughout my school years creativity was not encouraged, however, I knew that it needed to be.

At the age of 15 I began to work on live theater performances and fell deeply in love with the atmosphere and musicals! After my schooling, I completed a course in Live Production (Lighting, Audio, Stage Management and Event Management) and began to work full time at a cinema, with a particular focus on functions. I shortly became an Event Manager for the cinema, creating and running events for thousands of people, including Australian and World Film Premieres (Hairspray, Superman II, 300, He's Just Not That Into You, I Love You Too, Wog Boy 2: Kings Of Mykinos and many more!).

Outside of the cinema, I work for two theatre companies, one local to Melbourne (RedRoom Theatre) and an international company (Short + Sweet). RedRoom specialises in Cabaret acts and re-vamping musicals whilst Short + Sweet specialises in festivals of Dance, Theatre, Cabaret and Song. For both companies, I am an Assistant to the Producer, Director, Stage Manager and Cast.

I have held many roles on many different shows throughout my years working in the industry, including: Lighting Designer and Operator (Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Melbourne International Tap Festival), Stage Manager (Melbourne International Comedy Festival, State Of Design: Victoria), Director (Away) and Assistant Stage Manager (The Candy Topps, Threepenny Opera, Squish, Short + Sweet Dance/Theatre/Cabaret).

About the Staff of the Ballibay Camps

A key to the success of any camping season is staff. We spend a great deal of time screening and selecting our staff before every summer, and we have been fortunate to have many talented counselors and teachers remain with us season after season. Our staff members are predominantly educators and university students from the United States, although we also have a strong international component to our staff.

Our staff members come to us with outstanding credentials: professional experience, a background in teaching, and/or exceptional skills in their specialties. Most of all, we seek good, caring people who are interested in the well-being and growth of children. We look for people who, knowing something of the competitive nature of the adult world, are excited to put those concerns aside for a summer and focus on "the journey" in a non-competitive, fun, friendly environment.
