Years at Camp: 2nd Year in 2011
Department: Rock Music
Camp Bio:
I am looking forward to my first summer working at Camp Ballibay, meeting the challenges and having new experiences. I am keen to share my love and appreciation of music and performing in bands with the children and the staff.
Professional/School Bio:
I have played bass guitar since I was 12 years old, also playing rhythm guitar. I started at the Rock School of my local music college and playing in bands with friends. I played clarinet from the age of 8 years old.
My love and appreciation of music grew, and I enjoyed working with the younger musicians at Rock School as I progressed through, as well as sharing my enthusiasm for music and guitar with the children of my home village school on the Isle of Wight whilst there on teaching work experience. I have played with a covers band since I was 16 years old, regularly gigging around the island and the mainland.
I grew up listening to punk and rock bands, like The Clash and The Jam, and my musical taste developed into an appreciation of a broad range of music to include pop, ska, reggae and dance. My current influences include Katy B, The XX, Two Door Cinema Club, Calvin Harris, as well as many many more.
I live on the Isle of Wight, a small island off the south coast of England, where I have just completed the second year of my Commercial Music Degree at Platform One College of Music, affiliated with Chichester University.
I am the bass player in the band Paper Romance, an electro funk dance band - check out our www.myspace.com/paperromance ! The highlight of our career so far is playing as the opening act on the main stage of the 2010 Isle of Wight Festival, sharing the line-up with Sir Paul McCartney, Pink, the Editors and Spandau Ballet on the Sunday. Since then we have been busy writing, gigging and recording and we have just completed a small tour of Plymouth to top it all off. Also check out our three new releases; The Paper Romance Debut E.P., Debut Single Hearts, and our Acoustic E.P.
I love living by the sea on the island and enjoy having the advantages of the beach and the outdoor life on my doorstep. I particularly enjoy kayaking on the cove near my home, and also swimming and cycling.
I am looking forward to both teaching this summer and working with the campers so we can all play some stellar tunes.
