John Henry Sheridan

Title: Visiting Artist, Rock Instructor

Years at Camp: 3 years in 2010

Department: Rock Music

Camp Bio:

This is my 3rd summer at the camp and I will only be here for a week, but I rearranged my schedule several times to make at least one week fit, because I did not want another whole year to pass before I got a chance to experience the Ballibay vibe again and see some friends from previous years as well as spend time with amazing and inspiring youth!

In the past I have coached rock bands to play to their best potential and have given many private guitar or bass lessons. I love the atmosphere and the nonstop flow of creativity and positive energy!
Also the quality of the food and the kitchen staff should be mentioned as well as the quality of the whole organization itself. Looking forward to this summer's experience!

Professional/School Bio:

John Henry Sheridan is an all-around-musician. He has played in numerous rock bands and musical ensembles over the past 16 years. He has also become proficient at leading and coaching others to play their best together.

A graduate of Brooklyn College Conservatory of Music, he has been trained in the fields of composition, performance, and education to enhance his years of experience in the "music scene" itself. His strongest instrument is guitar although he is also competent on bass, keyboard, drums and as a vocalist.

Recently, during the first five months of 2010, as a volunteer poverty fighter in Brazil, he performed and taught guitar extensively in the vicinity of Quijingue, Bahia, BR.

He has worked as a private music instructor for 15 years and substitute teacher for the NYC Department of Education for 2 years. You can hear some of his original compositions at his website www.LoveDinosaur.com.

About the Staff of the Ballibay Camps

A key to the success of any camping season is staff. We spend a great deal of time screening and selecting our staff before every summer, and we have been fortunate to have many talented counselors and teachers remain with us season after season. Our staff members are predominantly educators and university students from the United States, although we also have a strong international component to our staff.

Our staff members come to us with outstanding credentials: professional experience, a background in teaching, and/or exceptional skills in their specialties. Most of all, we seek good, caring people who are interested in the well-being and growth of children. We look for people who, knowing something of the competitive nature of the adult world, are excited to put those concerns aside for a summer and focus on "the journey" in a non-competitive, fun, friendly environment.
